chem APG Series are a group of alkyl polyglucoside, which is a class of non-ionic surfactants widely used in a variety of household and industrial applications. They are derived from sugars, usually glucose derivatives, and fatty alcohols. The raw materials for industrial manufacture are typically starch and fat, and the final products are typically complex mixtures of compounds with different sugars comprising the drophilic end and alkyl groups of variable length comprising the drophobic end. When derived from glucose, they are known as alkyl polyglucoside.
As part of a range of nonionic environmentally friendly surfactants, APGs are widely used in the fields of cosmetics, and used to enhance the formation of foams in detergents for dishwashing and for delicate fabrics. Alkyl polyglucoside is also ideally suited for use in a variety of I&I liquid cleaning systems, especially laundry and hard surface applications. Caustic stability, builder compatibility, detergency and drotrope properties combine to offer the formulator greater flexibility and better cost performance.
APGs are claimed to possess a range of advantages when compared with other classes of surfactants. They display dermatological and ocular safety, good biodegradability, good wettability, good foam production and good cleaning ability.
